Chaplaincy Central was created when a number of national organisations with an interest in promoting and supporting chaplaincy in schools and FE agreed to work together, primarily to support chaplains, often from a lay background, appointed to new posts in schools and colleges where there was often no tradition of chaplaincy.
Chaplaincy Central is overseen by a body of trustees, currently:
Toni Coulton – recently retired Director of Festive, the Further Education Student Initiative
Tim Abbott – Director of the Colchester schools work charity Christian Youth Outreach (CYO)
Simon Barker – Central Region team leader for Scripture Union
Garry Neave – Further Education adviser at the Church of England
Gordon Parry – Director of the School Chaplains and Leaders Association (SCALA)
and assisted by Paul Hansford, who is Administrator to SCALA.
In order to ensure the broadest representation from the different denominations and education sectors Chaplaincy Central has a wider reference group made up of chaplains, educationalists and other leaders.
The charity is funded entirely by donations from contributing bodies, grants and individuals.
