Why do schools and colleges need chaplains?

There are many reasons why schools and colleges feel they benefit from the input of chaplains.  Here are some of the things chaplains bring.

  • A contribution to Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development of learners.
  • An additional source of pastoral support for learners and staff.
  • An impact on the achievements of learners.
  • A contribution to the enrichment curriculum in colleges.
  • Involvement in extra-curricular activities.
  • A resident ‘expert’ on the Christian faith.
  • An increased understanding of the Christian faith and of Christian social teaching.
  • Help for learners in understanding and participating in aid and justice issues.
